Chairman candidate shot dead in Brahmanbaria

Chairman candidate Ershadul Haque (35) was shot dead after a youth was shot dead by miscreants in Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria. He was shot dead on Friday night while being taken to Dhaka from Brahmanbaria General Hospital for advanced treatment.

The deceased Ershadul Haque was the son of Abul Kashem, the current chairman of Natghar union of the upazila and was the chairman candidate in the upcoming UP elections.

According to police and local sources, Abul Kashem, the current chairman of Natghar Union Parishad, has been ill for some time. Therefore, his son Ershadul Haque was preparing to contest for the post of chairman instead of Abul Kashem in the UP elections. Waz mahfil was going on in the market area of ​​Kurighar village of the union on Friday night. In that meeting, some people including Ershad and Badal went there on motorcycles. He wished blessings to all those present in the Waz Mahfil as possible chairman candidates. On the way back from there, Badal was riding a motorcycle and Ershad was sitting behind him.

Badal, who was sitting in the front driver's seat, was shot dead by miscreants on the way and fell to the ground and died on the spot. At that time, the miscreants shot at Ershad. Ershad was rescued and sent to the District Sadar Hospital, where doctors sent him to Dhaka in critical condition. However, Ershadul died on the road before reaching Dhaka.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Crime) Mollah Mohammad Shaheen said Ershad also died after Badal. Police are deployed in the area. Attempts are being made to arrest those involved in the killings.
